Hackathon Galvanize

The Hackathon on December 3 2016 was a very fun and interactive hackathon. It was my first ever hackathon and I felt great knowing about it. In this hackathon we were focusing on Bias. We had to make a product and brainstorm ideas on the solutions of the product. This was difficult and we had about 5-6 hours to do all this. But their was pressure because of the mentors and other schools that are in this competition. But honestly seeing my class mates and making new friends is what I loved the most. We not only learn but interact with each other. We work together and try to make our product as best as possible. Our product was called the INCLUB which was an app that will bring a change to gender equality. I was the designer of this project and made We then gather all our designs and research and make a website. We then present this website to the judges and other schools. We had 2 minutes to describe about what our product is and how it could benefit the world. Not only the hackathon we make friends but we get prizes throughout the day. Many were like stickers, key chains, etc. The food was also great because of the chip tole and pizza that they ordered.  To sum up this hackathon was very fun and I enjoyed this first hackathon.

Shakespeare complete works

Shakespeare has approximately 3.5 million characters in his complete works. Which is bigger the plain ASCII or the 4 min Mp3 song. This depends on the file size of the Mp3 and the quality. The highest quality for an Mp3 4 min song will be 7.68 Mb. The Shakespeare complete works will take about 3.5 million bytes. A one minute Mp3 will be about 700 KB which is 2800KB if it was 4 minutes. 1 kilobyte is 100 bytes. Which means shakespeare has a bigger file. Which means Shakespeare play has about 600,000 more bytes than a 4 minute song. I got this b

Flash Talk:Protocol Vulnerabilities

                      Flash Talk
                                           Protocol Vulnerabilities

The Internet is expanding and becoming bigger everyday and Vulnerabilities/hacking are increasing. The Internet or the “Net” is a global system that interconnects with many computer networks. In other words the internet is a system that connects the networks which could send and receive information to users. Internet Vulnerabilities could be very common at times and could increase the risk to be hacked. This is called Internet spoofing, but there is more to it. For example, Internet spoofing is a created internet protocol packets that have a false Ip address. An Ip address is a bunch of numbers that is separated by periods that identifies each computer in the internet. Once that Ip address is false you could be lead to a fake website which is vulnerable. For hackers it could be easy to intercept or encrypt the data. This could be dangerous and cause the hacker to steal the information. There are many Protocol Vulnerabilities in the Internet protocols. For example some of them are HTTP, DNS,TCP, IP,etc. These are protocols that guide or instruct the computer on what to do.

There are many protocol vulnerabilities that affect the computer and may cause a threat to users. A malicious hacker could intercept data and use it for his/her advantage. An example of this could be a command protocol, DNS. The Domain Name Server (DNS) is the main directory and looks up the Ip address. In other words it's like the phone book of the internet. It could be a worldwide collection of the DNS servers that are available. They communicate using network protocols. It's a database system that send and retrieves data to the servers and computers. But there are vulnerabilities to DNS, and could exploit your information to the hackers. There are many security issues with the DNS and is a nice target for many of the hackers out there. Traffic could also be a issue to this and cause delays with the server. But since these are hackers hacking into the DNS we call it DNS spoofing or DNS cache poisoning. These attacks send out false information to a user it could be a server exchange. An example of this could be an unrelated attack. The hacker uses a recursive query so get into the DNS server by requiring a domain. He will then add answers to the cache this way to emote this DNS server. Another is related data attack and it is just like the unrelated attack but the hacker adds extra information to the original query. To sum up there are many attacks that may intercept/add the information from the DNS servers. Finally, the internet is expanding and getting better, so does the DNS but it can't keep up with its vulnerabilities to its server.

WBL Workshop

The WBL workshop on November 14, 2016 was a very important  workshop that dealt with discovering your career DNA. DNA stands for "Dynamic Natural Abilities." They have gave us a packet and explained why its important to find your career that you like doing. This was very complicated at first since I was confused on what to do. I usually like doing something in the engineering, medical, and business field. But I wasn't sure so they gave us a series of exercises that were in this packet. My first exercise I was interested in entrepreneurship,Social,Artistic values. After this there were multiple activities in the packet which had many surveys or questions on my preferences. I then found out I liked Data and working with ides during my job. In fact, I started to find out that I was inserted in the medical/business more than the engineering. But I still wasn't sure. Once we finished the packet we will soon find out but it will change throughout the years. Lastly, this WBL workshop was great.

W3Schools CSS

Today we have read and done some W3school CSS exercises. These exercise have helped me I new what to do once I have read and took notes on the different types of Selectors and Syntax. For example the CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. Which displays Html elements. There are many different style sheets. They could be displayed in several ways. Css syntax is a rule that has a selector and declaration. Some of the selectors were Element, Id, Class, and Grouping. Most of them were used during the exercises. The exercises were difficult during some parts but most were quite easy.

Google Trip

On November 1, 2016 our Web Design teacher Mrs. Ramirez has invited us to go to a google trip. This trip was really fun in overall and I learned many new things with the people that worked their. To start this trip was during after school so we gathered during after school to take the train to Google Offices. As soon as we arrived they gave us google badges since this was a well protected vicinity. After this we were broken up into groups of fives's. And was escorted by people that worked their. They showed us the place and everything was going great. What I found cool about this was when I saw that they had a game room had great food and their was creativity everywhere. Google offices has felt like it has transformed into a personal household and was created for the comfort of its people. Once we were finished they sent us to an conference room. In this conference room they talked about what they do there and how they do it. We asked them a few questions about how their day was like. We have gained not only knowledge but how we could get into working in such a place. As time went by the google employee asked as to personally go to the people that work their and ask them questions. These questions were one on one and soon became conversations of how they got where they are today. We then finished and thanked these people for taking time of there day. I loved the google trip and I hope I will be there, again someday.

Project 1 Movies

Project 1 was easy and difficult in some parts. We had to recollect the things we learned in the past about coding and put them in the project. This was an easy task since we learned how to create tables, hyperlinks, paragraphs, etc. Once done then we create the top 3 movies that we liked. I choose Guardians of the Galaxy, The Intouchables, and Creed. All three were my favorite so I had to create a homepage that leads to each movie representing the picture/hyperlink. So we had to create coding for our index page, coding for each movie and we had to create a coding for the sources. Once done we then submit it it to Filezilla/Jupiter Ed. But their were issues during the coding. The simple issue that I struggle most of the time is Time management issues. Another was I didn't know where to start. I was lost for a few days but I got the hang of it. I did this by asking my peers and planning ahead. I wrote a summary for each movie and my review of it. Furthermore I wrote the genre, director, casting members, etc. This was basically it. But the major issue was time management. One thing I learned here is that to ask peers for help and try to keep up with the class. I will try to do some of the coding at home so it will be easier. Another thing was I had trouble fixing my buttons. I learned to simplify a href links and just to name them based on folders when entering or getting out from the folders. Lastly, this project was a overwhelming project that had to be done within a time limit.

Lab 7 Homepage

Lab 7 was basically a lab that I had to create a website leading to each of the labs that I made throughout this year. I also had to create an index which lead to each one of the labs and had to go back to the homepage. I did this by adding my hyperlinks. My main website had to have all the labs and every lab had to work properly. This lab took me two periods to finish and it wasn't stressful or easy. But was alright I finished it but I had to do the Index towards the end. Once finished I had to submit it to Jupiter grades. I have learned how to do this lab because of my past labs that I have done. I gained knowledge and this helped me towards this lab. I struggled at some points but I understood my mistakes. This lab was an okay and knowledgeable lab.

Lab 6 Banner/Name Plate

Lab 6 was a frustrating lab that I had to make a name plate and banner. I learned quite a few things because of my endless editing images. I first was told that I had to use Photoshop to edit the images that I searched in google. This images were labeled as to reuse them except only if you modified them which I did. Once done I soon find out that I had to create my banner and name plate from scratch. Meaning I had to use shapes, color, gradient, filters, etc. My banner size was 1559 by 559 and my name tag was 600 by 600.  I decide to create my banner and and name plate and I could still use some improvement.. I used Photoshop CS6 to do this once done I submitted this up in Jupiter. I have learned many things in this lab. Such as which to manage my time.

Lab 5 List

Lab 5 list was easy but time consuming. I spent about 3-4 periods working on this project. I knew what to do and every command but it was difficult because of the time requirement. I did not struggle but I learned a few things like making a table about the things I love the most. In this lab I had to list my favorite, foods, movies, school subjects, music and make a grocery shopping list. We also made a list of our least favorite school subjects. Once done we had to change the background color and font color to make it look nice. SO our list was either ordered or unordered depending on our teacher format. in conclusion this was a great lab and I will use my skills that I learned for future labs and projects.

Lab 4 Tables

Lab 4 Tables was a fun and easy lab. I finished fast and quick but learned how to make a table and how to make theses colors work. The colors were placed in to the table. Mrs. Ramirez has given us 8 colors which are; Crimson, Dark turquoise, Dark violet, snow, thistle, dark sea green, tan, and dark slate green; we also had to pick our 8 colors from selecting them from computerhope.com or w3schools.com. Once done we have to label each one based on color name, hexadecimal, and Hue.If used the code <th> it will be displayed in bold font. Once done you put the color names and codes you are done with this lab. I have learned many new things in this lab that will effect me in the future since I will use some of these codes in my future labs, projects, and sites. This lab was actually easy and I learned new things such as bolding certain words and making a table with colors.

Lab 3 HTML

Lab 3 was interesting and was overwhelming because of the images and hyperlinks. In this lab we were supposed to add 3 images or screenshots from the websites. Such as your blog spot, w3schools,and the teachers website. When done then we have to add the hyper link for each website. The command for this is <a href>. Once finished we add the image/screenshot. The command for this <img src=> the width and the height. The problem that i had was everything worked but my images woudnt work. I soon tried editing my coding language and forgot a few grammar spellings. But soon the image was p i tried fixing the height and width but nothing will change. I finally realized that I had to have a jpg file so I decided to save my screenshots to jpg. In overall this lab was an okay lab but time management was key here I had to manage m,y time wisely. After this I had to transfer my labs to a software called Filezilla. This makes our labs be in a server that our teacher could see and open.

What do Filezilla, CoreFtp, and Cyberduck have in common?

FileZilla is a software that is free software that is powerful because of the files that is transferred over the internet. FileZilla has developed throughout the years and has become a very popular FTP client. FTP stands for file transfer protocol and is a standard network protocol use for transferring computer files between the client and server. This is being used by many webmasters across the world. This client supports FTP, SFTP, and FTPS. The Coreftp is a secure Ftp client for windows. It secures Ftp clients encrypted account information and transfers data across the internet. It also protects itself from being seen across networks. Cyberduck is an open source client for Ftp,Sftp, WebDav, Openstack Swift, and Amazon A3.FileZilla, Corftp, and Cyberduck all have a relation with sending and receiving  files by using FTP which supports these programs/software's.They are sent between the client and server.

Lab 2 Image Reflection

In lab 2 it was actually amazing to know and see how to put images into a website using textedit application. This application was Vidal and important when making these websites. In this lab we added a new command which is <img src=>. This adds an image to our website which makes it look nice. To start you have to always begin with <html> then skip a line, <head> , title, and close it by adding</head>. Then you do the heading f<h1>,<h2>, and <h3>. Once done you add <img src=>. You then take a photo in the photo booth application. You save it in the same file so it should look like this, <img src="AJ_Me.jpg" width="454" height="314">. You are then done and you have to write <p> for the content. Once finished with everything you type </center>, </body>, and </html>. This has been a great lab and I learned how to input images to websites.

Lab 1 HTML Reflection

This is our first lab this year and it was pretty easy. In this lab we had to learn how to make a website using the text edit application. This application let us write out our paragraphs. For example, I started off by using <html> and it was very important to use those brackets. Without them their went be websites. Simply the computer wont understand. Also everything is supposed to be lower case. if you are ending that website you will need to end with </html>. When you begin right after <html> you skip a line and start wit <h> heading you write your heading in that line and once you finish you close it with </h>. Then you skip a line and start off with your <p> in this line you write about your content and information to end it you simply do it again and add a slash, </p>. Once you finish all this you skip a line and write </html>. This is like your ending sentence in computer code. Once finished we save it and we have to add .html to the save as file name. Without this it wont open up in the browser. Once saved go to the browser and click file>open file> click your file name and if it opens correctly it should display your title name which was your heading (<h>). This lab was interesting and fun. Even tough we had limited time it was easy.

HTML Thoughts

This year in digital design I am having a digital design class that will teach me to develop skills. Html is one of these skills that I will acquire. My thoughts about html is all about text and using it for the internet. Html stands for Hyper Text Mark up Language and is related with text. Its a language used for the internet to understand. Html is a language that tries to understand human language and process it into computer language. I think html is used for making up websites and is used in our daily lives and we dont notice it.
